Aide-de-Camp have, as in the case of
all other officers drawing such allowances,been increased
from a rate of $6 per mensem per coolie to $7.50 per mensem
which coolies can per coolie, the latter being the rate at now be engaged for the service of residents on the lower le- vels in Victoria. Even higher wages are demanded at the Peak and in the New Territory, and the 36 rate has for some years been insufficient, and has been the source of much complaint
on the part of the Government employees.
